A moment of desperation in life.

“Pain can devour our spiritual sensibilities in the flames of disappointment, sadness, anger and despair. In moments of suffering, seconds turn into hours, hours turn into months .. of struggle to survive the creative whims of evil that challenge our hope in the promises of God.”51

Does it mean that God was ignoring all this people for three years and three months? What has he done to be consumed by God’s anger at his early age? Friends and loved ones fasted and prayed in vain for a divine mercy. Didn’t God promise Abraham that he would not destroy a city because of ten people? (Gen. 18: 33). What about the innocent children and good ones who prayed on this man’s behalf?

It was hard to believe he was gone. Friends and well wishers were asking: “why him?” His wife and family members were asking God why abandoning them when they needed Him most. As if the tragedy was not enough, and while the poor widow still had tears in her eyes, her mother died. There were so many unanswerable whys.

“…As we wait to leave [this world],having affection for others, having true and deep friendship with some human being, …can make this fleeting life bearable and even enjoyable indeed that sometimes we don’t want to leave even though we know that this is not our permanent home.”52

All the uncountable “why him? Why now?” Tears and exclamation could not make any difference. There are moments in life when your expectations seemed to have roughened your faith, slammed the door on your face and struck you like a lightning. When every door seemed to be closed, and your world darkened; you ask yourself: “where is my God?” When you’re weary and bitter about life, you will leave many complaints to yourself; mostly when it seems that expectations of help or rescue have vanished and tomorrow seemed to be on the rainy side. During this difficult times, judgmentalism should be abandoned because it causes the disease of the mind which torments and arouses sick emotions.

Sometimes we have difficulties controlling the immature qualities in us when we hurt and cry, because fear and concern cannot stop death. Irrespective of our unresolved bitterness, we cannot allow things of the world to be the ultimate love of our lives, otherwise God becomes licentious. “The more [you] identif[y] with God, the more will [you] be identified with all the others who are identified with Him.”53

There was an amazing story about a boy, Sam, and his stormy journey to accomplish his vocation. He came from a very humble family. His parents could not afford to pay for his education. They loved him so much but had difficulties taking care of him and his siblings. Sam understood his parents’ predicaments. It was not a sudden disaster but an existing low social status problem which he understood early in life. He was happy with himself and exercised self confidence irrespective of the family’s economic problems. It was a Christian family who believed that “tomorrow would be better.
